You don't have to design this subtle detail the exact same way that I've done it, but I do think this detail is important in the overall design. -- I think a photographic image is a strong addition to the cover design, however it's not absolutely essential. My favourite is the sculpture of the two black thinking men balancing on the brass rails, but feel free to use something else, or none at all. -- All the verbiage/text on the cover is important and necessary. I prefer the "The Tenacious Perpetuality..." line to be on/near the top, as well as the sub-text "Culture wars are spitting us..." to be under the title word RIFT....
