Quick $10 question

Hi Jen Firstly, thank you very much for your advice. I have had several bids! I want to ask you a question that is, from what you previously admitted, a bit out of your area of expertise, but you are far more knowledgeable than I am, and I need impartial advice. You know the job (Search This Site). I have had much correspondence with a Java coder, when a $300 VC++ offer came in. When I pointed out that I have already had an offer of $200, he said he could do it in C# for $200. I asked both of them to advise me what the advantages/disadvantages would be for me, as the user, for the application in three different codes. I received these answers: The Java coder wrote: The advatage/disadvantage for each languages are: 1. C++ - the oldest of the three. Support only for Windows. Can cause memory leaks easily. 2. C# - Support only Windows. Can cause memory leaks more easily then Java. 3. Java - support all big platforms. almost no leaking. Easy to manage, the best web support. A lot of open-source project that can make life easy. But, little slower in run-time (good writing can avoid it as well). Well, i wasn't so objective, i think :) i preffer Java because of the usability of it. The VC++/C# coder wrote: 1) VC++: It is the best solution: the only 100% Windows native solution from the mentioned ones, very fast, low resources usage, no addtional downloads. The main drawback is the development time, thus the cost; 2) C#: Would be my second choice for this application. Slower than VC++, requires more resources. Also it requires MS .net Framework to installed. It can be downloaded for free from Windows Update site but it has about 24MB. The main advantage is the shorter development time. 3) Java: I would never choose Java for this application. The main advantage of Java is portability and in this case is not needed. On the other hand only disadvantages: The interface is not Windows native and is very slow, the resource requirements and application speed is almost the same as for C#. Also it will require the Java Runtime to be installed on the machine in order to run (14MB to download). Could you give me your own objective thoughts as to the advantages/disadvantages of each language?
