Read and Code Media Transcripts

The purpose of this project is to identify examples of hate speech in the media and other forms of political discussion/debate. Coders will be asked to review samples of transcripts, and code on a 6-point hate speech intensity scale and for the direction of communication. The hate speech focuses on groups that are targeted with negative words/phrases. Groups are based on commonalities such as nationality, ethnic background, sexuality, gender, etc. (does not include political parties) and keywords are negative words or phrases. The direction of communication distinguishing between A - rhetoric allocated towards the group, and B - responses prescribed against the group.
