How to avoid additional expenses at the end of a lease. Lease agents relentlessly nickel-and-dime consumers at the end of a lease period; $250 to dispatch the vehicle, $200 for replacement of light bulbs or worn tyres, $1000 for those extra miles that you put on the clock and so on. A rundown of what produces these fees and steps to avoid them follows:- A Disposition fee: is charged by the leasing company should you choose not to purchase the vehicle when the lease terminates. This fee is considered compensation for the cost of selling or disposing of the vehicle. On average this incorporates administrative charges, the cost for a dealer to prepare the vehicle for resale and other penalties. Ensure that this fee is clearly defined in your contract and you are in agreement before signing for the vehicle. At lease-end you will be in no position to re-negotiate as the dealer might use your refundable security deposit in lieu of this fee. Excess mileage: Practically all leasing companies charge a premium for every mile above the agreed mileage settled in your contract. The penalty may be as much as 25 cents per mile and adds up fast. To avoid running the risk of being liable for thousands of dollars for excess mileage penalties, at the end of the lease period, check the “per mile” charges in the contract and be practical about your mileage prior to signing any contract. If you believe the limit set is unrealistic considering your commuting requirements, re-negotiate with the dealer to obtain more mileage or take a contract to compensate for additional miles. Excess tear-and-wear: One more probable cost at the end of a Lease. This is for is any minor damage caused to the car throughout the term of lease and is deemed as any excessive damage over and above normal wear and tear of the vehicle. Note: use of the terms “deemed”, “normal” and “excessive”. No standard formula is used to identify what is “excessive” and/or “normal”, it is the leasing company who assesses the damage and determines what they will charge and can leave you in the hands of dishonest leasing agents who establish rigid wear-and-tear standards. Make certain you read an explanation of the standards, comprehend and consent to them. Should the leased vehicle be damaged before the end of the lease, it may be more cost effective to repair the damage yourself than pay excessive costs charged by the leasing agent. If there is a dispute regarding charges at the end of the lease, obtain a third party to conduct a professional appraisal specifying the amount needed to repair any damage or an amount by which wear-and-tear has reduced the worth of the vehicle.

I am essentially a beginner at this kind of work, so I am attempting a simpler job so I can both build up confidence and credibility. My lack of experience is why I bid low, but hopefully my writing skills and creativity will shine through.

HOW TO AVOID EXTRA COSTS AT THE END OF YOUR LEASE If you pay close attention to the details of your lease agreement, you may be able to save yourself some money. Lease agents constantly nickel and dime consumers when their lease runs out. Some examples are $250 to dispose of your vehicle, $1000 for extra miles you put on the clock, and $200 to replace the light bulb and worn tires. Disposition Fee Here is what triggers those fees and what you can do about it. Leasing companies charge you a disposition fee if you choose not to buy the vehicles at the end of your lease. This fee is set as a compensation for the expenses of selling, or otherwise disposing of the vehicle. It typically includes administrative charges; the dealer’s cost to prepare the car for resale and any other penalties. Make certain this fee is stated clearly in the contract and that you agree to it before signing the contract. At lease end, you are not in a position to negotiate because the dealer may use your security deposit towards this fee. Excess Mileage Charges Most lease contracts include an excess mileage charge. A premium charge is made for each mile over the agreed upon mileage stated in your contract. Sometimes this penalty is as high as 25 cents per mile and can add up quickly. To avoid the risk of running thousands of dollars in excess mileage penalties at the end of your lease, always check the “per mile” charges in your contract. Even more so, be realistic about your mileage before signing the contract. If you think the limit is unrealistic based on your commutation needs, then negotiate with the dealer to get a higher mileage or contract for additional miles. Excess Tear-and-Wear Charges Another potential cost at the end of the lease is any excessive damage done to the normal tear and wear of the vehicle. There are no standard guidelines or formula to define what is “excessive” and “normal”. Therefore, it is left up to the discretion of the leasing company to determine what charges, if any, will be made. This leaves you at the mercy of unscrupulous leasing agents to set stringent tear-and-wear standards. It is of utmost importance that you read the description of these standards and understand them and agree to them. If your leased vehicle is damaged prior to the end of the lease, you may find it cheaper to repair the damage yourself rather than pay the excessive charges of the leasing agent. If there is a dispute over the charges at the end of you lease, get an independent third party to do a professional appraisal. This appraisal should give itemized repair details and cost. The appraisal should also include how much in tear-and-wear the value of the vehicle has been reduced. (476 word count)
