My project is to investigate a solution for a Vending Machine using MDB.

My intention is to create a cashless-system and get the Vending machine to operate with request from internet.

I first disign idea was to install a linux based computer, with a RS232/MDB card and a GPRS connection to internet.

The customer will interact with the website thru SMS and a request will be sent from the internet site when the item is paid. The request is sent as a XML and transported to the vendingmachine by GPRS (WiFi if it is available)

The "onboard" linux machine interpet the XML and perform the MDB request needed to get the item out of the Vending machine,

The customer->SMS->Account->Payment part is done and working

The part that is missing is the interaction with MDB to the vending machine triggered by a message over internet

My goal is to eliminate the need for an extra interface card from RS232 to MDB and have the MDB protocol and its unusual 9bit data format done by software. There is also some timing and handshake routines that are not so easy.

I want to have this "device" as small as possible and is searching för a industrial PC with or without GPRS / WiFi connection. Do you have any suggestion??

I belive tha device should be Java and Linux based.

Is it possible to have a working image of the Linux/cashless finished to 1 Sept?
