Stored Procedure for Import Data

Hello,

I have a .txt file (called “Import_File??) that has pipe-delimited values and I need to import this data into an existing SQL Server table (which already contains data). This is complicated because in this .txt file are some records that do have a value for the primary key (which is named “ID??).

For those records in the pipe-delimited file where the “ID?? field is NOT null, the “last_updated?? field then needs to be compared with the corresponding record in the actual table to determine whether or not the corresponding record from the pipe-delimited file is more recent.

If the corresponding record in the pipe-delimited file is more recent, then the record in the existing table needs to be updated with the data from the pipe-delimited file.

For records in the pipe-delimited file where the “ID?? field is null, those records need to be inserted into the table as new records.

In order to do accomplish these I need the coder to design a stored procedure that can follow the above logic.

I have supplied three files:

1. Create_Table: A SQL script which will create the test table

2. Original_Data: The original data to pre-populate the table

3. Import_File: The data that comes from another database

Please let me know if you need anything else from me in order to develop a solution. Once the solution is developed for this I have several more that the coder can work on if he or she is interested.
