Web Based Properties File Editor

We have an enterprise software product that is currently customized at client site by hand-editing several configuration files that are essentially property=value pairs, one per line. We want to be able to edit these files from a web browser We are looking for a general-purpose web-based editor for our properties files. Strong preference is for Java based tools. Fat client solutions will not meet our requirement. We bundle Apache/Tomcat with our product. I have to believe that there are tools out there that already do this already. Although we have never used it, we like the look and feel of what these guys did ( [url removed, login to view] A snapshot is included below) but we want some modifications as noted below. (If you can point us to existing freeware/open source tools and can customize them to meet our needs ??" more power to you. If it requires us to make slight modifications to how the properties files are tagged, we are willing to adapt. If another intermediate format can be used, thats fine too. We have considered putting these into a database, but that causes a bit of Catch-22 for us. In generalI am almost certain that there are better ways to do this and we are reinventing the wheel) We imagine a jsp/servlet or equivalent on the server side that can be told to look for files in certain directories with certain extensions ( *.conf *.prop etc). A list of these files is presented to the user in an HTML table with last modified times along with EDIT/DELETE links On selecting the file, the code creates a temp copy of the file, parses the properties, and visually present to the user in an HTML table/rows with A Comment, Name of the Property, and its Current Value. The Current Value is likely presented in an HTML text box, and only the Current Value is editable at this point. The Comment and Name of the Property are not. The entire property may be deleted. Deletion of the entire property should ask for confirmation from User. It is Ok to use Javascript. A CSS/style sheet should be used. A future project will address our XML configuration files as well. ## Platform

Our preference is for use of JSP/Servelets etc since they are already being used in our product's web portal. In general, Perl and PHP and ASP are not preferred, but if you are proposing reuse of an existing tested widely used product, we will consider options, with PHP being the next preference.
