I need to develop a mobile app (preferably for iPhone/iPad) to input boring data from the field. The idea would be to capture the data in real-time that can be viewed from an office anywhere in the world. It would require a simple user interface with basic inputs to be logged as samples are being recovered from the boring.
It may help to explain the required input and the desired output:
- Input - We would be using the app to log samples recovered during a standard penetration test boring procedure. A standard penetration test is a drilling procedure where we log the encountered soil type, color, consistency and density at each depth we drill. The borings we drill range from 10 feet below the ground to 200+ feet below the ground surface. This app would need to provide inputs to record the depth of the sample, the density of the soil, the soil type, classification, and color. The app would also need to provide a way to record specifics about the borehole as well, including boring name, location (GPS coordinates), driller, logger, depth to water, drill rig used, and casing used. Some additional features that would be helpful is the ability to take pictures of each sample as it is recovered.
- Output - The excel file attached is what we would like the output file to include. This file is formatted in a way that allows a direct input into our logging software where we produce AutoCAD figures to present the data. This file includes information for 2 borings, and as you can see, the input data has been separated into different tables (sheets) that is organized by boring name (in this case, borings F-1 and F-2). Our thought would be to create a single excel file for each boring. There are certain fields that are calculations based on the provided input data.
