Resumen del concurso

This is a SAMPLE (so not a live) task provided by an English exam board for 14/15 year olds. I would be interested in awarding the sum for the best solution. By that I mean, the most efficient and the most elegant coding. Classes/Numpy/Pandas MUST NOT be used - a very simple solution using the most basic of skills and functions/modular programming is what we are after. The choice of PythonCarrot will be final! This initial contest is with a view to scouting for talent and the chosen candidate will have the opportunity to be enlisted for plenty of additional opportunities

The task is here: http://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/266758-unit-j276-03-programming-project-task-3-sample-non-exam-assessment.pdf

KEY POINTS and CONSIDERATIONS for AWARD.
1. Please use Python 3 only
2. No graphics - purely a text /console based solution (so no Tkinter, Pygame, etc)
3. The Matrix should be generated on the screen
4. The obstacles and other messages, as mentioned in the task, are loaded from a simple txt file only (csv reader can however, be used)
5. ONLY FUNCTIONS. Please do NOT submit a class based solution.
6. No use of pandas or numpy. The solution should be using the most basic of tools and skills that are taught at secondary school.

*This is a very simple task for which we already have a solution. We're interested however, in alternative solutions and more elegant code.

Hi - the interface looks great. Could you confirm about the obstacles and the external file - how has that been done? If you could send me a video of a demo of the whole thing working, I will know whether to award it or not. Then I can obviously hand over the 'award' for the full python code. Please note, as the spec and my description says, please use only a simple txt files and simple read/write methods (no pandas or numpy).

      Hi, thank you!
Obstacles are read in from a simple obstacles.txt file, ( which can be modified ) which also mentions penalty with each obstacle ( +ve or -ve ) . Once a player reaches an obstacle, he is moved by the amount denoted by penalty.
Double roll has been taken care of, I haven't added a screenshot. ( It is random after all! )
Thanks, how/where should I send the video?
Feedback on it is always welcome, if you have something else in mind.
