I'm building a standard for animal microchip APIs. The biggest problem that my project is solving is the fragmentation in the microchip market. Many companies even encrypt their IDs, by doing so, it negatively impacts the probability of recovery for lost pets and it adds an unnecessary cost to the microchip readers that the veterinarians have to purchase. The solution is to standardize the API and provide open id's with custom privacy settings for pets. These ids are then used to track health data like spread of diseases in a wider scale.
