Leadership Individual Research Report

The individual Assignment is a Research Report on a person or topic of your choice (Gandhi leadership in this case) The assignment is in 2 parts, a Proposal and the Final Report which is due week 11. To ensure originality, the final report will need to go through Turn-it-in.

This assignment is worth 35% of your term mark;

Proposal 10%

Final Report 25%

The cover page of both the proposal and report should have the following format:

Report title (your research question or hypothesis) followed by your name and student number, course number and section and date submitted. All but the report title should be in the bottom right of the title page. The title page should be securely stapled to the rest of the report.

Your research subject or hypothesis needs to be very narrow and specific. You do not have the time to write a novel or an in-depth research paper on “Why so-and-so was a great leader”. Narrowing it down to something more manageable will help you to focus your research. Something like; “So-and-so used his/her whatever to accomplish such-and-such”; “Caesar used popular opinion to gain and keep control of Rome”; “Napoleon used his personal power to influence his soldiers to follow his commands without question”. It is best to only have 2 points that you need to research, analyze and prove.

The bibliography in the proposal will include all of the sources that you intend to review (at least 20 sources) to get the answers that you will need.

Normally a research paper would look at all the differing views about a particular subject but, you will not likely be able to do this for this paper given the time and page constrictions. This project is more about learning how to go about developing and writing a report than it is about proving that you are an expert on the subject.

Remember, being succinct is a valued skill in business; say things in a few words as possible.

Please note that this is a REPORT not an essay. Your boss is never going to ask you to write an essay. If you do not know the difference, please ask me in class to explain. All sources must be cited using APA format. The report will be submitted through Turn-It-In to check for originality prior to you handing in the hard copy.

The final report will be 6-10 pages, double space, 12 point font.

Marks will be awarded based on:

Style, format, professional presentation 10

Clarity, writing, grammar & spelling 5

Creativity, original perspective 5

Research Methodology 5
