The project regards the development of a gaming program that is similar to ‘Tower Defense’. An example of the game can be found on [login to view URL]
The game must work on both Windows and Unix systems in an offline environment.
The game consists of rounds. A round starts by enabling the user to strategically place and build towers to destroy all targets that move along an indicated path. After having built towers, the next stage of the round will start. In this stage, multiple targets will spawn to start moving towards the finish. As targets spawn, towers that have been built by the user will start firing on the target. A round can end in two ways: the user wins or the user loses. The user wins when all targets have been destroyed. Upon winning, a new round will start. The difficulty of the rounds will increase as the round number increases. Round difficulty includes the number of targets generated, their health and the damage a bullet does.
The user loses when at least 5 targets have reached the finish.
The game should be challenging in the regard that the position of the towers and their potential upgrades, should directly influence their chances of successfully completing a round. Users should aim to reach the highest possible score (i.e. reach the highest round before “Game Over”).
Please note that the parameters (firing rate, health damage per bullet, moving speed of targets, spawning rate of targets, amount of targets, points per target etc.) are not specified. Filling these in to make the game challenging/competitive (in terms of score) is expected as part of the project.
These parameters include:
Firing rate
Health damage per bullet
Moving speed of targets
Amount of targets spawned per round
Spawning rate of targets
Points per target
Points per tower
Health of targets
Etc.
The required lay-out of the map is included. The path [D6], finish [D7] and spawning point [D8] are indicated on the map.
Attachments
- Software requirements specification ("EUR Tower Defense SRS") that is used to capture our needs.
- Map with markings for path (“map with [login to view URL]”), that is only to be used for indication.
- Map without markings (“[login to view URL]”), that is to be used as the playing field for the actual game.
- Lay-out for target (“[login to view URL]”).
- Lay-out for tower (“[login to view URL]”).
- Activity diagram (“Activity [login to view URL]”).
The game should be a PC application. Mobile application is also fine, but we figured a PC application is relatively easier to make.
