Hi. The main thing would be the chat function. Did you have the look at the Drupal chat module(s)? Building one from scratch would be quite an undertaking if you dislike most of the out- of- the- box functionality. I've coded a lot for Drupal and if not handled right it can turn into a nightmare although from all cmses it's probably the most flexible. I can send you links to projects I've done.
