We have just been notified by our host that our joomla installation has been hacked and used to SPAM. They have asked us to fix it urgently or the account will be suspended. This is the email from them :- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, One of your accounts hosted with us was hacked and used to send SPAM. In order to fix this issue we have performed a full scan on this account and we found some infected files: /home/??????/public_html/[login to view URL] /home/??????/public_html/libraries/joomla/filesystem/[login to view URL] /home/??????/public_html/libraries/tcpdf/images/[login to view URL] /home/??????/public_html/libraries/simplepie/idn/[login to view URL] /home/??????/.trash/[login to view URL] We've analyzed the logs on the server in order to shed some light on how the websites were compromised, however, we didn't find any security breach. This points us to a Joomla vulnerability, either of a theme or one of the plugins. We recommend reading through the following articles and applying those prevention methods. [login to view URL]!_Setup [login to view URL] [login to view URL] We kindly ask you to check the previously mentioned issues and take action, otherwise, your account will be suspended. Also, please confirm once done. ------------------------------------------------- We need someone who can investigate the issue and fix it ASAP. We use Joomla 1.5.26 and Virtuemart 1.1.7 and have been told that they can't be updated due to compatibility issues? We have tried to change the admin username and the admin password and it just takes us to a sex site when we press Save. We really need someone who can clean / replace the infected files, change the admin username and password and complete all of the security articles as given by the host above. If possible, we would like to update both Joomla and Virtuemart, but not sure if this is possible. You must be a Joomla / Virtuemart and security expert. Thanks

Hello! This is no VirtueMart security problem - this Joomla Packadge and maybe some plugins problem... If you will replace hacked files and will change all passwords(this needed in your case) ... tomorrow this files may be infected again. So I recommend to check all FTP locally with several antivirus. At FTP may be placed virus-body file... need to to analyze all the places where it may be ... also need to check all permissions for files/directories...
