Image Optimization Application

Project Description: What is the project about? A non-technical user may find it hard to optimize images using a software where they have to write their own code or understand how a more advanced tool works. Advanced tools could be confusing, time consuming and may require high programming skills. What is the project deliverable? The deliverable project is an image optimizer software which allows users to optimize their images using an easy to use interface which is fast and simple, yet provide common tasks that non-expert users might need to perform, but some of these tasks might require the user to have more advanced knowledge. Some of the features that the software will have includes uploading an image from the computer, compression level to apply to the image, resize the image by configuring the width and height of the image, convert from one format to another etc. What is original about this project? The originality of the project is that it focuses on non-expert users, yet it provides some features for advanced users as well. Research carried out to find out the existing image optimization tools has shown that there are numerous software that can be used to help users to optimize their images. For instance, GIMP, RIOT, MatLab, PicMonkey, Pixlr, FotoFlexer, [login to view URL], PunyPNG, ImageMagick, pngcrush, jpegtran etc. The research on the existing software was performed to help expand the understanding and knowledge what it takes to produce a system that is easy, effective, and enjoyable to use. Another reason was to find similar systems that I could compare examples of good and bad designs in term of functionality so that some of the features could be used in the final system. During this process, I found out that users prefer optimization tools that are fast and as easy as possible, because they would not wants to use something that is hard to understand. For the advanced users, however, this is not the case. List of requirements will be provided to successful candidate.
