Hi,
First, thanks for posting this project. Adapting a book into a screenplay is no small task since they are similar only in that they both tell a story.
For starters, I dropped your file into a Final Draft document to give me an idea of page count, how it’s laid out, what’s going on in it, etc.
I have to be honest with you. It needs a lot of work.
If you’re still with me, please read on.
Much of it seems to have been copied from your Kindle book, and while I understand what you’re trying to do with the opening interview and the subsequent flashbacks, the interview alone runs to almost five full script pages of monologue. The kiss of death.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the real estate adage, “Location, location, location.”
In a script, it’s “Conflict, conflict, conflict.”
It has to come early and often.
I can find no compelling conflict in the opening pages of the script.
That would be the first thing I would start working on—developing the characters and the conflict—after reading the book. Please look at the milestones in my proposal for the other steps.
Since you’re looking at Freelancer, I have to assume you are very budget-driven (WGA min. for this is $40K). In exchange for the low fee, I would require the ‘Written By’ credit for this project. You, of course, would get the ‘Based on the Book by Joe Crochet’ credit.
Please take a look at the script samples in my profile.
Would love to work with you on this.
Be in touch.
