Nice to know your working progress on your zombies game.
I have build a game that similar with your game specification. In the game, the enemy (in my game it's monster, not a zombie) is wandering around corresponding with the environment condition, the enemy will moving between obstacle and not bump it. The enemy know that the obstacle cannot be passed, so he will move around the obstacle. And there is a search radius, where if the player are outside the range of the search radius, the player will not get detected and if it's on the search radius, the zombie will chase it. And about the damage system, I'm sure that I can fulfill your requirement. And I love the concept of shooting and mine gameplay that implemented to be the main gameplay on winning this game and the item that will recover the status of the player attribute such as mine number, energy, and ammo.
I will do my best and give the better result for this project, and it won't take so much time. 3 Days or less is enough and it will not more than 9 December :)
