Resumen del concurso

We are looking to create an app that can be used to scan a bag and detect the possibility of hidden items like weapons. We don't know the best option for implementation so we are looking for brilliant ideas from the Freelancer universe!

The use case:

The main entrance at special events often includes security guards performing bag checks. As it is now, the guards briefly look inside the bag and move to the next patron. Speed is important in this so there is no backup of people entering the checkpoint.

There are also guards that randomly check people for hidden items in pockets, under pants, etc. This involved a physical 'pat down'. For this - there is no real method to choosing which people get checked like this.

Our hope is that we can deploy an app that can scan an area of people and identify the possibility of banned items and if detected, guards can more accurately choose which patrons to pull to the side for additional screening.

This can be done via a mobile app, or via fixed cameras positioned in a specific area. The software used should be able to detect hidden image shapes and then query multiple databases in search of potential weapons and other banned items.

Imagine you are attending a large public event and you must go through security screening in order to enter the venue - but because the security guards are having to check so many people - it creates a bottleneck that creates a large backlog of people waiting to enter. This is the problem we are trying to solve.

by using internal camera on most common smartphone, it's too hard to detect shape of hidden object and pass to app to identify it. use thermal camera or infrared camera attached to smartphone to do this. and even though it's can be realized, it's not enough with just $50.

This is impossible the way you want it. 3D technology on cameras and phones is just not at the point where it can see into a bag and pinpoint objects. You are going to need a proprietary system of mmWave, an array of ToF sensors, and - despite what you may think - x-ray. This cannot be done the way you want it, and definitely not for $50.

Ah, those famous proprietary databases and mm waves. That particular company has not created anything, their fundraising campaign failed. I would be glad to be mistaken, but go and try ordering a device from them to see how it works (hint: it wouldn't).

This project is not for airports and not meant to use XRAY. Instead it should use 3D scanning technology. A company has created one version of it - http://www.sword.technology/

If a system like this could have existed, you wouldn't have to go through security checks at the airports. Go to a large airport near you, see what kind of equipment they use to detect hidden items and how they do it (one by one). What you're asking is either impossible with current technology, or I am not getting your requirements right.
