Convert a X-moving stage to a Z-moving one

Resumen del concurso

We are interested in converting a X stage we have on stock, to move across Z axis.
We are looking for a friction based approach (samples attached), but we can consider other ideas too.

If you are to adopt the suggested (friction based approach), its important detailing the material, tolerances etc to be used. Due to application specific limitations, use of lubricants has to be VERY limited. However, target speeds and duty cycles are VERY limited too (max speed 1mm/sec), so heat dispersion will not be an issue

For those interested in supporting the linear motion with a linear slide - please use NDN 05-10.05
https://www.schneeberger.com/fileadmin/documents/downloadcenter/01_product_catalogues_company_brochures/04_Slides_and_miniature_tables/01_Slides_types_NK_NKL_ND_NDN/Slides_Product_catalog_EN_.pdf

Please note that the motor to be used, as mentioned, is the linear motor appearing in the files attached - please don't use rotary or other motors, or position the linear motor vertically.

Why is it impossible to submit another entry when winner isn't chosen? I have finished my drawings and now I can't submit.

in 30days from contest ending, if we don't pick a winner, the award will be split between the submissions considered valid, so it is safer to avoid accepting new entries at any time (..i believe)

Hello everyone - by mid next week we will either pick a winner or reject all offers except two, and the two freelancers will split the EUR300 as per Freelancer rules (We have two proposals that are almost equally good). Thank you for your participation in this contest!!

    Dear all,

As we are now almost one day before the contest end, and I see that all submissions are delivering the overall concept of each design, but not the specifics, I would like to ask participants to confirm that the winning offer will be updated with detailed mechanical drawings and full Bill of Materials used.

Unless the above is validated for each design, the design in question will not be evaluated.

    Thank you.

no such limitations at this phase.
However, smaller and lower costs designs will of course win extra evaluation points

Z axis is expected to move 3-6mm

The motor can be installed in an angle, but its lift force should not exceed 1.5N

Please make sure your parts correspond to actually available ones and keep track of overall BOM cost
Preferred supplier: MISUMI, but can work with others too

    1) What is mounted on the upper surface? Are the vertical guides I installed getting in the way of something?
    2) While moving along Z axis, how rigid should X position be?
    3) What distance along the Z axis should the stage traverse?
    4) Since submission is JPG file do you need only a screenshot of the 3d model to see the concept or do you need drawings for each part and subassembly?

      1) You wrote that we should convert existing stage you have on stock. What exactly do you have on stock? Just the linear engine or upper and lower body as well?
      2) What material are the upper and lower body made of?
      3) Can we make alterations to the upper and lower body (drill holes, mill grooves etc)?
      4) What is the linear engine traverse length? Do you want the stage to be raised 5 mm in it's furthest position or is that not important?
      5) Can you share the linear motor designation, in case I need more info on it?
      6) In case the entire stage you have on stock is purchased, can you share it's designation?
      7) How many movements are we talking about? Will it go up and down a thousand times a day or ten times a day?

      1) you can use any parts you want - just keep track of your BOM
      2) No big restrictions - Aluminum is ok, but can work with others. Just keep it light
      3) Yes
      4) 50mm X travel, 5mm Z would be ok
      5) Please use the model (.step file) as a reference - it is very accurate. Is there a specific parameter you need?
      6) not sure what you mean by 'the entire stage'
      7) full stroke maybe 5-10times a day - small movements (

    Hi,
I'm not completely sure what you need. If the lower body moves along the X axis then the upper body will move along the Z axis provided it's fixed along the X. Thus, the stage is converted. Would you like someone to elaborate on this, define materials, linear guides, etc, or come up with another solution?

Hello Bojan, the example idea offered is just a concept - as you mentioned for example, X axis needs to be fixed. Linear guides ideally, wont be needed.
