I am a woodworker, home-remodeler, and amateur decorator who is in the process of launching an online store specializing in home decor...particularly French country, American primitive, shabby chic, cast iron, textiles, etc. (anything that has a cottage feel). I expect my customer base to be comprised mostly of women of all ages who are "nesters" at heart and want to create a comfortable and inviting home, and/or shopping for gifts for friends and family. I would like for the logo to convey to the viewer a message of elegance but comfort - professionalism but approachability. I want to photograph my products predominantly on white backgrounds and I'd like a logo that's created in black and white and/or grayscale so the store will have a clean, unified, and timeless appearance. My company name is Arberlo Cottage Market and I'd like the logo to be simple enough to use as an avatar on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc. - or perhaps there would be a masthead logo and a compatible logo for social media. I would like to also maintain a working relationship with the designer for future advertising.

    Vartan P. - I do appreciate the feedback. I've read about the aversion that many people have for the Papyrus font, particularly among graphic artists and those in publishing. For whatever reason, I have always found it aesthetically appealing. However, I suggested these two fonts as merely a guide for the look I'd like to attain. I'd like a moderately informal yet elegant font and I would strongly encourage everyone who has made or will make a submission for this contest to provide me with variations of their designs using fonts they think would be good choices. I am not putting restrictions on any of you...just ideas of what I'd like and the direction in which I want to go. I want to pay an artist for a logo that embodies professionalism as well as comfortable elegance - that's why I've posted this contest, to obtain something eye catching and memorable as well as tasteful. WOW ME AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU'VE GOT AND WHAT YOU CAN DO.

    One last comment for this evening: I have had more submissions than expected and I had to begin clearing out entries that I knew would not be consistent with what I had in mind. In this capacity, many submissions were "rejected" and I hated to have to do it. In no way do I want to offend anyone, for as a creative person, I understand what it means to put your work out there for appraisal. All this being said, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUBMITTED AN ENTRY FOR CONSIDERATION. Please keep them coming.

    I would like for the design to not look modern or contemporary; preferably, it would have a vintage, turn-of-the-20th-century look and feel. I'd like for the font to be similar to Papyrus or Zapfino...a script type of font and if the design could incorporate a bird's nest into it, that would be a plus.

      There are 2 fonts you should never, ever use in an design, Papyrus and Comic Sans. Those are the most unaesthetic and less professional looking typefaces out there. I'm sorry but this is not my opinion, but everyone else's. Google it and you'll realize what the design community think about them.
