Are you planning to get a new logo designed for your business? Whether you want to create something new or change up your old one, you need ideas to help you keep its professional appearance.

Accomplishing a well-crafted logo requires hard work, along with being updated with the new design trends. It needs to make a strong impression on customers, while establishing your brand identity. Logos often communicate the kind of product and services provided by a company; the design is a small part of your brand, but in incorporates numerous activation points. These can be from the interior design of your brand, to the tone presented on social media, making it the pivot of your branding scheme.

Though a logo is not your brand nor your identity, its design forms a recognized image which represents your product or business. The message conveyed by the logo needs to be in step with the organisation's values. The following seven ideas may help to strike some inspiration to create a perfect logo design. Inspiration can come from anywhere; anything can spur your imagination, and provide an idea for a great logo.

1. Be Distinctive and Unique

The most essential part of a logo is its uniqueness, so you can call it your very own. This is achieved through features like color, texture, images, font style and much more. You should research different designs before beginning your own, especially those that relate to your vocation or niche. But make sure you just take ideas from such research, and don't copy anything closely.

Another way is to sketch out your logo according to how you would like it to look, before referring to other logos. This is also called the ‘Einstein Technique’, where Einstein refused to study the work of other physicists before working on his own. This technique will let you create something original, unaffected by others. A quick sketch can be followed up by some research on similar designs, to make sure that it won't look like someone else's organisation.

You can browse through several logo design sites like Logo Gala and Logo Moose, but it is advisable to research art and design sites, and graphic design sites as well.

2. Use Meaningful Colors

Every color has a distinctive meaning, and if used in your logo it will be associated with your particular brand. A blue color relates to sky or the ocean, meaning stability and depth. Red is usually associated with love, power or excitement, while black refers to authority and firmness. While there maybe multiple meanings of colors, they are often related and can provide a multi-dimensional aspect to your logo. One other interesting point is that colours can represent different characteristics around the world. Where black may represent authority in some cultures, it may be more associated with death in others, and so on. Careful research at the design stage will take this into account, and allow for it.

3. Your Brand Should Be The Main Focus Point

A logo should be seen as a part of your brand promotion, as it will be viewed everywhere: on your website, business cards, stationery, and even the product itself. This has to be kept in mind when designing the logo, so you can visualize the look of your brand. The logo should be in accordance with the specific qualities of your brand product, so it conforms with the values of your company. These concepts have to be kept in mind during the process of the info-graphic design of the logo, and brand product. Don’t just focus on the design, but the way it will reflect the brand itself. As a logo needs to stand the test of time, you have to understand the long term goals of the company, and incorporate them if possible.

4. Logo Should Be Mobile Friendly

Your logo will be viewed everywhere, including on mobile devices. You should visualize the look of the logo for people who will be downloading your app, for example. An example is the company Netflix, which uses the full word in red on a black background. The app, however, when downloaded on your mobile devices is composed of a simpler, yet recognisable, red ‘N’ on a black background. Here the company has deviated from a full name to a single alphabet letter for its mobile image.

5. Don’t Make Drastic Changes

For businesses that already have a logo, it's advisable to make only slight changes. Drastic changes in a logo will tend to confuse the audience, especially if the change has not been advertised in advance. Sometimes changes in the format or color can leave customers searching, for example, to find your app. This can be rectified through email communication or on social media, reminding users of the intended change in advance.

Any change will ideally be slight, so people are still able to recognize and identify the company from the new logo. If a more obvious change is required, one strategy is to do this gradually, where smaller changes are incorporated and more accepted over time.

6. Use An Animal Mascot

Did you ever think of using an animal mascot for your logo? An animal figure looks quite unique on a logo, drawing the attention of viewers. A cute animal, or some other such character connecting to your brand, can be appealing to reflect a more modern audience. But before thinking of an animal mascot, be sure it associates with your brand. It would be advisable to consult an expert logo design team to make sure an animal figure suits the ideologies of your organization. The logo of Twitter, a chirping and whistling bird in flight, seems very apt.

7. A Logo Should be Striking

Whenever you think of a famous brand you may immediately recollect the logo. An example of this is Coca-Cola written over a red background, or Pepsi over a blue one. This is because the logos are so interlinked it is difficult to think of the brand separately from the logo. Another feature of the iconic logo of Coca-Cola is its existing typeface, which has not changed for over a century. In fact, people may not have been able to accept the brand if Coca-Cola had changed the scrawling script for a different one.

One can explore serendipitous alphabet combinations to create great logos. Monograms with the initials of a company can make a simple, yet effective, logo for a brand.

Good logo designs require a mixture of designing skills, creative written material and skillful implementation.  It is quite easy for a designer to create a normal logo that serves the purpose, but actually mastering all the techniques of crafting a perfect logo takes time and insightful artistry. A great logo can leave an everlasting impact on those seeing it as the centrepiece of your brand.

We hope these ideas will inspire you to make an awesome logo for your company or organization. To achieve brand recognition, you may need professional help to get where you want to be.
